As we age, our memories become more important than ever. They allow us to reflect on the happy moments we’ve experienced and to cherish the people we’ve loved. Unfortunately, as we get older our memories can begin to fade, which is why at Heather Glen Senior Living, our team believes it is incredibly important to bring attention to National Memory Day. National Memory Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness about memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and it’s a day to remember those who have suffered from these and to raise awareness about the importance of memory and brain health.

At Heather Glen Senior Living, we take memory care very seriously. We understand that memory loss can be scary, but our team of professionals is always here to help. On National Memory Day, we want to take a moment to talk about some of the ways that we can help our older loved ones maintain their memory and brain health.

Exercise

Exercise isn’t just good for the body, it’s good for the brain too. Regular physical activity can help improve memory, cognitive function and even brain volume. At Heather Glen Senior Living, we offer a variety of exercise activities that are designed specifically for your older loved ones to ensure that they have plenty of ways to stay active each day.

Socialization

Research has shown that socialization can also help prevent memory loss and improve cognitive function, which is why we always encourage our residents to stay socially active. Each week, we have a variety of activities, including games, movies and trivia.

Brain games

Just like our bodies need exercise, our brains need exercise too. Brain games, such as crossword puzzles and Sudoku can help improve memory and cognitive functions as we age, and reading is another way we can also work out our brain muscles.

Healthy eating

A healthy diet can do wonders for our brain health. We offer plenty of nutritious meals at Heather Glen Senior Living, and we work with our residents to ensure that they’re getting the nutrients they need each and every day.

Memory care services

If your older loved one is experiencing memory loss or dementia, our team offers a specialized memory care service. Our memory care program is designed to provide individualized care that focuses on each resident’s unique needs to ensure that they are receiving the best possible care.
